Choosing the right 4ft 6" Double Bed
There is a very wide range of Double Beds available on the market and the choice can be very daunting. Initially you should decide what style of bed you would like. The style of the bed is very important as it will need to fit into the décor of the bedroom. It should also be understood that the chosen bed will last many years but the décor of the bedroom will change quite often during this period.
When choosing a bed the first thing that you look at is the design, style and colour of the headboard, as this is generally the only part of the bed that will be seen. If the headboard is very ornate or of a particular colour, it will be more difficult to match it with the décor of the bedroom, when it comes to the time you want to change the decor. The main purpose of a bed is to provide you with support and comfort for a good night’s sleep. The part of the bed that will give you that support and comfort is the mattress. For the mattress to perform as it should, then the bed base must give the right support. If the base is not very firm then it could cause the mattress to dip in the middle causing you and your partner to roll together. Most Double Beds have a bed base made up of wooden slats, which can either be solid or flexible. The distance apart and quality of the slats will greatly affect the support given to the mattress.
When choosing a 4ft.6ins double bed it is most important to check what style the supporting slats are. The ideal spacing of the slat should be no more that 10 cms apart. Other systems of mattress support are by using rigid wire mesh. This type is generally found on metal bed frames and includes spring attachments to give extra comfort. When choosing a bed with this type of bed base, ensure that the springs etc. are strong enough to give the support that is required.
It must be remembered that a 4ft.6ins. double bed only provides 2ft.3ins of bed space for each partner. This is much less than a normal single bed. When choosing a suitable double bed, the height of the persons who will use it should be taken into account. As a good guide, the length of the bed should be between 4ins-6ins longer that the height of the tallest person. There are bed manufacturers who make beds which are 7ft. long, ideal for people over 6ft. tall. When buying any 4ft.6ins double bed, it must always be remembered that the main purpose of any bed is to provide a good nights sleep.
