  Choose your bed

Did you know that you spend nearly a third of your life in bed? That's only an average of 8 hours a night, which is standard for many people. Even if you sleep less than that, those hours that you spend sleeping on your mattress are some of the most important hours of the day. While you sleep, your body regenerates, builds and stores energy for the next day and reconstructs your body - while you sleep you heal, grow and physically mature. Sleep is important and crucial for everyone and you can't have a good night's sleep if you don't have a proper mattress for you to
sleep on.

There is a wide variety of mattresses available on the market - they all claim to be the best mattress that provides the most comfort.

There is a wide variety of mattresses available on the market - they all claim to be the best mattress that provides the most comfort. There are a few key things that you (and your partner) need to consider when purchasing a mattress that is right for you.

Check out the support on the mattress that you are purchasing. A good quality mattress should support your body at all points and keep your spine straight, as if you were standing with good posture. You should be able to relax your body into it's own natural curves and the mattress should support these curves - without the proper support, you will wake up sore and stiff from having your muscles work all night long.

Comfort is a big part of purchasing a mattress. Regardless of the claims of the mattress, it has to feel comfortable for you. You don't have to purchase a hard mattress in order for it to be good for you. Some people do prefer a firmer mattress while others prefer something more cushioned - the head way in mattresses mean that you can choose a plusher mattress and still have it feel comfortable and be good for your body.

Of course, when you purchase a mattress, you will want to check out the durability and warranty to make sure you are getting your money's worth. Durability refers to how long the mattress will maintain its comfort and support. Mattresses do wear out, as do foundations, so you should check your mattress yearly to see if it needs to be replaced. The warranty on a mattress will protect you from manufacturer mistakes and defects.

How big of a mattress do you want? You need to make sure that the mattress is big enough if you share a bed with your partner. For most couples, this translates to a queen sized mattress and bed, which is often large enough. However, you can also look at a less-expensive double with a little less room or a more-expensive king size mattress which will provide you with ample room on the bed.

You should shop for the best value in a mattress

Mattresses and their foundations are generally sold as a set and for a good reason. The mattress and its foundation are designed to work together to provide the support that is offered by the mattress. We're not talking about fabric matching, but rather type/style/brand matching of the mattress and base. By mismatching sets, you could impede the comfort of the mattress you have purchased and even have it wear out faster.

You don't have to match for color, but the mattress and base should match in age, style, and brand.

When you are purchasing a mattress, make sure that you are buying one that is made with all new materials. Some mattresses are really refurbished with parts (coils, springs, etc.) from old mattresses. You should shop for the best value in a mattress, not necessarily the lowest price. As with all things, you get what you pay for. A less expensive, or cheap mattress, will be less comfortable and won't last as long.

You can lengthen the life span of your mattress by knowing a few key details about how mattresses wear out.

Quality is the most important factor in the life span of a mattress. A high quality mattress set can provide lengthy support and comfort for years while a poor quality mattress can deteriorate quite quickly.

How often you use the mattress is also another factor in the life span. If you use the bed nightly, it's obviously going to wear out faster than the mattress in the guest room that isn't used very often.

The weight of the person or people that use the mattress will also affect the life span. Heavier people will wear out a mattress faster than someone who is lighter weight. Also, a couple will wear out a mattress faster than someone who sleeps alone.

You also need to take care of your mattress, and the better care you take of it, the longer it will last. When you first get your mattress, you should turn it every two weeks, end to end and side to side, for the first six months you own the mattress. After the initial six months, you should turn it in the same fashion ever two or three months. This will even out the wear on the bed and prevent it from sagging where you sleep.

You can check out the selection of Vi-Spring and Tempur mattresses that we have available. Vi-spring mattresses are made with pocket coil technology that wraps hundreds, even thousands of coils into individual packets, which are then sewn together to create the mattress. A Tempur mattress is made of NASA space foam, also known as memory foam that molds to your specific body shape when you lie down. Both types of mattress offer comfort, durability and support for your body.
