Contemporary Beds vs. Traditional BedsWhile there are some similarities in the styles of contemporary beds and traditional beds, there are some differences that can be quite important as well. You should be aware of these differences prior to purchasing a new bed because they could influence your decision. A traditional bed is usually made out of heavy solid woods. More often than not they consist of oak, maple or cherry style woods. Traditional style beds are usually made into elaborate style designs and sometimes even include ornate carvings on the more expensive styles. While traditional style beds mainly consist of darker woods, they can be had in natural woods, too. A contemporary bed is made from a variety of materials. There are the contemporary beds that are made out of lighter woods, although not usually the heavier assortment of oak and maple. There are also contemporary beds that are made out of a variety of metals, such as chrome and silver, as well. Contemporary bed styles are usually more simplistic in nature and more flexible to different styles. Because of the use of heavier woods in traditional style beds they are
heavier to move, unlike the contemporary bed styles which are easier to
move. Also, contemporary beds generally fit into any type of room and
decor, whereas traditional style beds tend to dominate the room and appear
to take up more space. Not to mention that traditional bed styles don't
tend to match too many other types of decor. |
