Most of us have heard about bed
bugs, whether its through the nursery rhyme, newspaper or
our mother told us, but what are bed bugs and what should
we know about them? A bed bug is a small nocturnal insect
that feeds on the blood of humans and other warm blooded hosts.
They are mostly active during the night because that is when
the human body is at rest and they have the best opportunity
to eat. Their peak attack time is about an hour before dawn,
which is kind of like their dinner time.
Bed bugs can cause skin infections and possible scarring
when you scratch from the bites. In an extreme case, you could
contract Hepatitis B from them although no known transmissions
from bed bug to human have ever been recorded of this. The
one telling factor that you have bedbugs is if you wake up
in the morning to find that you have red welts that you didn’t
when you went to bed the night before.
Now how do you get rid of them? You want to take care of
your bedding, pillows and anything soft in the area that they
might hide in by putting them in the dryer on high for awhile
to kill anything in them. Then you will need to buy some kind
of spray to get rid of them in the mattress. Make sure that
you do your research on the spray and find the best one for
your needs.
