Foetal position 'healthiest and most popular to sleep in'
The position in which people sleep could be a key factor in determining how well they sleep in bed at night, it has been reported.
According to the Telegraph, experts believe that dropping off in the wrong position can be as unhealthy as walking with a permanent slouch.
Chris Idzikowski, director of the Edinburgh Sleep Centre and an expert in sleep disorders, claims that the foetal position is one of the best to fall asleep in.
"Some 60 per cent of Britons go to sleep turned on one side, with their arms out and their legs slightly bent," he said. "It is also one of the healthiest positions."
Mr Idzikowski described that in this position air is allowed to flow freely throughout the body and prevents stomach reflux which is when digestive acids can cause pain by flowing back into the stomach.
A Tempur mattress may be of use to those who have trouble getting comfortable when they are sleeping as its memory foam technology can mould to the user's position and body shape.
