Writing for the Scotsman.com, Dr John Garner says the people should buy the best mattress they can afford as well as trying out several options for comfort while in a shop.

He also says that the spine and neck should be supported in a straight position.

Dr Garner said he has been "practising medicine for 30 years" and although he knew about the importance of the spine being straight during sleep and that some orthopaedic beds are too hard, he "didn't know of the importance of avoiding shoulder crunch."
