Dogs take a 'leap of faith from beds'

People are continuing to enjoy a comfy night's sleep thanks to thicker mattresses and increasingly higher beds.

However, according to the Wall Street Journal, this may not be to the delight of everyone.

Dogs which like to sleep in bed with their owner are beginning to find it difficult to jump up under the duvet due to the increase in height.

Because of this, some vets in the US have reported an increase in the number of pets suffering from elbow and shoulder arthritis and hip dysplasia.

Stephen Crane, an academic animal doctor and diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, said: "For a little dog to take a flying leap off a bed that's five to six times higher than he stands is an act of courage and a recipe for injury."
