Research finds snorers burn more calories
People who snore when they go to bed could be burning more calories during their sleep, a new study has discovered.
Researchers in the US found that those suffering from sleep apnoea burned 373 extra calories a day compared to those who had mild versions of the condition.
However, experts say that those with the disease are more likely to feel tired and sluggish in the day time because of their lack of sleep and this can then lead them to eat more.
Professor John Stradling, a sleep expert from the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, said: "I used to joke that sleep apnoea was free exercise at night - it's nice to have that confirmed."
Sleep apnoea is a condition which causes people to have disrupted sleep patterns as a result of their breathing momentarily stopping as their airways close over.
