Firm encourages people to recycle mattresses

A furniture retailer has come up with a new way for its customers to get rid of their old mattresses.

Barker and Stonehouse has teamed up with the Owen Fenns Community Association in Hartlepool to offer the service to customers, the Northern Echo reports.

Mattresses and other items of bulky furniture can be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way using machinery costing over £100,000, which has just been purchased to expand the operation.

The idea was first established by the charity four years ago.

It began life as an environmentally responsible way to recycle vehicles and has now grown into the service it provides today.

People may find they want to get rid of their old mattress to make way for a new Tempur product, which could help relieve any back, neck or joint problems they are experiencing.
