Recycling plant 'saves old mattresses'

A solution may be at hand for anyone with an old mattress who does not need it anymore.

Mattressrecycling.ca started up about one month ago and is the only firm in the North Vancouver area collecting old mattresses and stripping them for further use, the North Shore News reports.

According to Fabio Sccaldaferri, who runs the company, this is a good idea because it means the mattresses can be ripped apart and the components reused, depending on which parts are broken or worn away.

Almost all of the sections in a mattress and box spring, including foam, wood, metal, filler matting and plastic, are recyclable.

"This company has its own legs it seems like it's really picking up and people are really taking to it," Mr Sccaldaferri said.
