Regular routine 'is key to good night's sleep in bed'


People who have trouble sleeping in bed at night have been advised by experts to try and get into a regular routine.

According to the Examiner, maintaining regular sleeping and waking times every day, even at the weekend, is one of the most critical parts of a sleep routine.

To help people do this, they are advised to develop rituals before lying down on their comfy bed each night.

This can then become a signal to the body that it is time to slow down and relax before going to bed.

However, distracting activities such as paying bills, working or watching television should be avoided as the mind needs to associate the bedroom with relaxing and being calm rather than wakefulness, the website states.

The British Sleep Council advises anyone who finds it difficult to sleep because they become cold in bed at night to have a warm bath beforehand, wear pyjamas made from natural fibres or choose a mattress with a thicker side for use in the winter.
