Sleep deprived children 'become more active'
Many children who are deprived of sleep in bed actually become more active, it has been claimed.
According to WFTV Orlando, although it is a myth that children who do not get enough sleep act as though they are tired, they can have increased amounts of energy during the day unlike adults.
As a result of this, youngsters can often have difficulties paying attention at school.
Similarly, the website also states that while adults typically need between seven and nine hours of sleep a night, teenagers often need more, requiring at least 8.5 to 9.25 hours rest in bed.
This, the site suggests, dispels the myth that teens who often fall asleep are lazy, especially as their biological clocks usually mean they are programmed to sleep in the morning rather than the evening.
The University Echo recently reported that things such as going to lectures, going out, spending time with friends and having a part-time job can all lead some university students to become sleep deprived.
