The International Sleep Products Association (Ispa) has announced three new initiatives to increase awareness of the benefits of a good mattress.
Firstly, a national mattress campaign will be launched, to raise awareness among consumers of the range of mattresses available and the relationship between good sleep and good health, according to the Furniture World website.
Ispa chairperson Charlie Eitel is quoted by the website as saying: "We need to demonstrate the key role new mattresses play in the equation and we need to work shoulder-to-shoulder with our mattress retail partners to get the word to consumers."
To achieve this, the second initiative of a Mattress Retailer Council will be established, which will promote interaction between all those involved in the mattress industry, the website reports.
Finally, the board of trustees announced, will be a widespread campaign to reduce the amount of landfill created by used mattresses by promoting recycling initiatives.
This news follows a recent report about a San Francisco company which has helped cut mattress refuse in the area by cleaning, stripping and dismantling old mattresses for recycling purposes.
