Body-moulding mattress brands such as Tempur's memory foam example have been shown to reduce lower back pain in a new study.
The analysis, carried out by researchers at Backcenter Funen, Ringe, Denmark, also showed that the idea that hard mattresses are better for those with back pain is a myth, according to NewsWise.
The report - published in the Spine journal - commented: "Body-conforming soft mattresses seem to have an advantage over hard mattresses.
"Probably they are also better than soft, worn-out spring mattresses […] that do not conform to natural, intermediary positioned body curvatures."
For the study, 160 adults with chronic lower back pain slept for one month in one of three different types of beds, with the majority reporting a "small but significant" reduction in back pain with the body-conforming brand, the website reports.
Tempur also came out top in a recent comparison against Simmons' ComforPedic memory foam mattress in the Los Angeles Chronicle.
