The mattress many people have on their bed could be affecting their quality of sleep more than they realise, it has been claimed.
According to IndyStar.com, subtle changes to mattresses cause them to gradually become less comfortable and supportive over time.
The National Sleep Council claims that a good mattress will last for average of nine to ten years.
However, a recent study conducted by Oklahoma State University discovered that people who changed the mattress on their bed every five years experienced a better night's sleep and had less back pain.
The website continues: "Doctors used to recommend firm mattresses for everyone, but many now say that a slightly softer one can ease aging joints and pressure points."
One option for those who do find they have aches and pains when they get out of bed in the morning would be to purchase a Tempurbed or mattress.
