To ensure that travellers can get a good night's sleep when away from their own bed, guests at Travelodges will be able to rent a rather unusual sleep-enhancing tool in the future.
The hotel chain revealed that customers will be able to hire a goldfish during their stay to help them get a good night's sleep.
A recent study conducted for the company found that 63 per cent of people said that stress stopped them sleeping properly. However, 58 per cent revealed that watching a goldfish swim would reduce stress and so let them sleep better.
"We are always looking at ways to get our customers a better night's sleep and watching goldfish is proving to be a popular choice," explained Wayne Munnelly, the director of sleep at Travelodge.
Britain's leading animal psychologist Dr Roger Mugford said that Travelodge's move was a good idea, saying: "It's a well known fact, that watching fish can have a positive impact on human emotions - especially when feeling tense. This is why you often see aquariums in dentists' and doctors' surgeries.
"Travelodge's new service is a great example of how one sector can learn from another. Many hotel customers check in after a stressful day or before a big event the following day."
