People in the US think that getting a good night's sleep is beneficial for their health, a new study suggests.
The 2007 National Wellness Survey, carried out by Tempur-Pedic found that 42 per cent of people from the US thought that sleep did the most to restore their sense of well-being.
This means that people think sleep is more important that exercise and nutrition when it comes to feeling good about yourself.
"A good night's sleep has gained its rightful place alongside proper diet and exercise as a rational means to maximize health in the minds of Americans," explained Barry Bittman, an internationally renowned wellness expert.
Tempur's study also found that 44 per cent of people from the US thought that sleep was one of the best ways to reduce stress.
"There is no denying the importance of the restorative nature of sleep," Mr Bittman added. "The fact that US adults are saying they consider it a major stress-reducer demonstrates a widespread appreciation of the value of a good night's sleep."
Elsewhere in the report, it was found that 27 per cent of men and 21 per cent of women said that they needed their own mattress to guarantee a good night's sleep.
