Staff 'should be offered flexi-time' to improve sleep
Companies have been urged offer staff flexible working hours in order to make best use of their productivity and enable them to get the amount of sleep they need.
The Sleep Council notes that altering working hours to suit the body clock of individual members of staff could be beneficial for business.
It notes that some members of staff are not best suited to traditional working hours and while they may benefit from a nap, they could be even more productive with a shift in the time they spend in the office and the time they spend in bed.
Jessica Alexander, a spokeswomen for the council, said: "I think what would be a much more beneficial thing for businesses to look at is finding out about their client's sleep patterns and body clocks and when they are at their best and offering flexi hours in that sense."
Recently published research from the anti-cramp medicine manufacturer Crampex reveals that a fifth of workers regularly get less than five hours asleep in bed every night, with a quarter of staff taking time off due to exhaustion.
Employees may also benefit from purchasing a Vi-Spring bed whose unique pocket springs can provide additional comfort when they go to sleep.
