Yoga 'can aid sleep'


People looking for different ways to make sure they get some rest at night have been advised to consider yoga.

Kim Pierce, a freelance writer contributing to the Dallas Morning News, interviewed Shanon Buffington, a yoga instructor, regarding a new workshop.

Ms Buffington explained the goal of her class is to give individuals a "toolbox" of different techniques to help them get to sleep when they go to bed.

"Most of us don't sleep like babies anymore," she said. "We're typically tired and when we do rest, we don't sleep well."

She added that yoga tools can work to calm the autonomic nervous system and nudge the body towards a rest and digest - rather than fight or flight - state.

Fitness Magazine recommends an eight-minute, five-move yoga workout before bed for better sleep.
