Light exposure 'could help pensioners sleep'
Sleep patterns can become increasingly disturbed on retirement, it has been claimed, with one university setting up a study to find out if light exposure treatment could help older people have a good night's rest.
Researchers from the University of Surrey are looking for individuals over the age of 60 with sleeping problems for a new study which may be able to help them.
"As we age, changes in the body clock occur and these changes may be associated with increased sleep problems," the university said.
It notes an estimated 40 per cent of older people suffer from such disturbances.
The NHS reports another study from the US that found 60 per cent of women over 60 have troubles sleeping a few times a week at least.
Older people looking for class as well as comfort may want to purchase a Willis & Gambier bed in which to enjoy sleeping in their retirement years.
