Men who do not get enough sleep 'may be more likely to get diabetes'
Stressed out men who do not sleep properly could be more at risk of developing diabetes, according to the results of a new study published in the journal Diabetic Medicine.
The research looked at a group of more than 2,100 men born between 1938 and 1957.
It was revealed those with the highest levels of stress were 2.2 times more likely to develop diabetes than those with the lowest levels.
No such link was found in women.
More than 2.3 million people in the UK have been diagnosed with diabetes
Director of research at Diabetes UK Dr Iain Frame said other people had already suggested there may be a connection between sleep disorders and type 2 diabetes.
He added: "This research appears to confirm that there might be something in this."
Meanwhile, a report published in Current Biology has revealed older people may need less sleep.
