Sleeping in the same bed 'is an important part of a relationship'

How well you sleep at night can have an effect on your relationship, a report in the Metro has suggested.

Professor Paul Rosenblatt told the newspaper sharing a bed is not always as easy as it sounds.

He said: "It can take a lot of compromise to get it right but women say they feel safer sleeping with a partner, while men enjoy the contact."

However, according to Sominex, who make sleeping tablets, 22 per cent of couples in the UK sleep in separate beds because of bad habits such as sleep-talking and snoring.

Nevertheless, Professor Rosenblatt claims sleeping in the same bed can be important.

He says lives have been saved as a result of sharing a bed.

When interviewing couples, he discovered one woman had sensed her husband go into diabetic shock and another man had been able to help his wife after she experienced a serious brain problem.

Both of these people were saved because they received treatment quickly.

Couples who like a bit of luxury in the bedroom may find a Willis and Gambier bed offers what they are looking for.

Earlier this week, writing in the Guardian, Anne Wollenberg said doctors need to be more aware of sleep disorders.
