Good night's sleep 'offers numerous benefits'


An article from The Age has highlighted the importance of getting a good night's sleep.

Doctor Nilesh Dave, medical director at the Sleep and Breathing Disorders Centre at the University of Texas, told the website: "When you get good-quality sleep and enough hours of it, it is amazing how much better patients' moods are, how much better they're functioning. They're truly happy."

Studies have shown getting plenty of sleep can make us better athletes, it can help us cope with stress, it improves memory and it gives us a more positive outlook.

Dr Dave advises people who struggle to fall asleep to establish a bedtime routine and allocate plenty of time to unwind before hitting the sack.

He also suggests sticking with a schedule so that people go to bed and wake up at the same time everyday, even at the weekends.
