Lawyers 'blame beds' for sleep deprivation

Some 45 per cent of UK lawyers who toss and turn at night have blamed an uncomfortable bed as the main reason for getting a poor night's sleep, a new study has found.

Earlier this month, a study carried out by UK research firm GfK AG found that lawyers based in London are among the most sleep-deprived workers in the country, with those aged 55 averaging around four hours of sleep per night.

A new mattress or contemporary bed may interest some of the 40 lawyers who took part in the survey, as failure to get a good sleep could impact their performance on the job. Many admitted feeling emotional and bad-tempered because they were not well-rested, leading to underperformance in the workplace, Bloomberg reported.

"People judging us for the first time after a sleepless night would not realise that normally we were a well-adjusted, thoughtful person, instead of the snappy, unsociable wreck they see before them,'' said Donna Dawson, a behaviour psychologist.

People from Scotland may also benefit from a new mattress, as 40 per cent of the people surveyed there claimed that their sleep was affected because they could not get comfortable in their beds, the Press Association reported.

Having the right mattress could help those struggling to get enough shut-eye. Vi Spring mattresses are designed to offer excellent support all through the night.
