The right pillow is 'crucial' for getting enough sleep


Choosing the right pillow is a crucial part of ensuring you get enough sleep, it was suggested this week.

As well as the most suitable bed and mattress, the perfect pillow could be the missing link between insomnia and a full night's shut-eye.

According to CBS News, Manhattan's Benjamin Hotel offers visitors a "menu" of pillows from which guests can choose.

Manager Andrew Labetti appeared on US television programme The Early Show and emphasised the importance of a good pillow as well as giving some advice to people who are not sure if theirs makes the grade.

Changing a pillow every two years is a must, Mr Labetti advised, going on to recommend making sure that the pillow and pillowcase stay clean.

As well as this, checking if a pillow returns to its natural shape can be a useful indicator of whether it is past its use-by date, CBS reported.

If, after two seconds, the pillow does not go back to its original shape, then the fibres have broken and it no longer provides support.

Meanwhile, other sleep-related news this week included the results of a GFK NOP survey, which found that divorced male lawyers aged over 50 and living in London are the worst sleepers in the country.
