Firm produces 22-karat gold mattresses ? for dogs

An Italian company has started manufacturing mattresses for pets with covers woven with 22-karat gold thread, according to the New York Times.

The newspaper reports Magniflex's Gold Pet Mattresses are available in a range of different shapes and sizes and will set you back between $1,000 (£514) and $3,000.

Inspiration for the range came when a Russian customer asked the company to make her a gold mattress for her Maltese dog.

Global sales director for the manufacturer Marco Magni told the New York Times some customers were keen to offer their pets the same kind of lifestyle they enjoyed.

He added that the mattresses also offered some practical benefits.

Mr Magni said: "Gold, for sure, is the place in terms of mites. It doesn't allow any bacteria or … parasites."

For those people more concerned about their own sleeping arrangements, Vi-spring mattresses allow for perfect alignment of the body.
