Pregnant women 'need their sleep'

Getting a decent night's sleep is vital during pregnancy, according to US News and World Report.

The news provider acknowledges a number of factors can keep women awake while they are pregnant and has offered some tips from the American Pregnancy Association which may help those struggling to drop off.

First and foremost, it advises women to find a comfortable sleeping position which may well be different to the way they slept before they were pregnant.

It also suggests having a warm bath before bedtime.

Keeping the bedroom cool and playing relaxing music or nature sounds is useful for some women, it claims.

The newspaper also suggests getting some form of exercise every day. However, it adds women should consult their doctor to check what is acceptable.

Earlier this month Doctor Najib Ayas from the Vancouver Coastal Health Sleep Disorders Programme said making sure you get seven to eight hours sleep a night is as important as eating healthily and keeping fit.

A Vi Spring mattress can help those who struggle to get comfortable at night as it is designed to allow for the perfect alignment of the body.
