Good decision-making 'requires plenty of sleep'
Trying to go through life without enough sleep is not a good idea, according to the Herald Dispatch.
The newspaper claims when you are tired your brain struggles to integrate thoughts and feelings making it more likely you will make a bad decision.
It also explains the body releases less of the pleasure hormone serotonin when it is sleep-deprived.
This can lead people to try and increase those levels through smoking, high-sugar food or other stimulants which are bad for their health, the newspaper states.
It advises people to try and get seven to eight hours of continuous sleep every night claiming "your body likes to sleep the way your boss likes to make pronouncements: without interruptions".
The newspaper adds it takes approximately one-and-a-half hours of uninterrupted sleep before the body starts to reap the benefits.
Last week, the US News & World Report said it was important for insomniacs to find out the root cause of their inability to sleep.
A Tempur or Vi-Spring mattress can help people who find it difficult to drop off at night.
