Back to school 'means back to a fixed bedtime routine'
Getting kids back into a school sleep routine can be difficult after the summer holidays so Kate Shatzkin from the Baltimore Sun has compiled some tips which may be of help.
She says the National Sleep Foundation suggests parents who have let bedtimes slip should start getting their children back into their normal sleep routine about ten days to two weeks before school starts again.
Ms Shatzkin also claims having a fixed bedtime routine which helps relax children can be useful.
She suggests reading a story before sleep may help soothe kids who are anxious about going back to school.
Ms Shatzkin claims the National Sleep Foundation recommends school-aged children get ten to 11 hours sleep a night on school nights and adolescents get nine hours.
This comes after a report by psychologist and sleep researcher Michael Gradisar has revealed kids struggle with complex activities after getting less than eight hours sleep a night.
Parents' whose children who have difficulty sleeping at night may find a Tempur mattress helps as it provides a cushion of support which relieves any pressure put on the body.
