Bosses 'need to help workers with sleep disorders'
Employers should make it easier for their workers to make lifestyle changes that allow them to combat sleep disorders, an expert has claimed.
Benjamin Gerson, medical director of a Philadelphia-based sleep centre, has said employers need to be more aware of sleep disorders as they can cause weight gain which in turn leads to hypertension, diabetes and other medical conditions, Business and Legal Reports claims.
Dr Gerson said all of these health problems could result in higher costs for an employer.
He estimates 58 million days of work are missed every year as a result of complications associated with obesity.
The doctor states a good diet, exercise and treatment of sleep problems can help improve worker productivity and he says employers should be encouraging their workforce to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
Tempur and Vi Spring mattresses provide additional support which can be useful for people who find it difficult to drop off at night.
