Travellers advised on how to combat jetlag

For those people lucky enough to still have their summer holiday ahead of them, a health advisor from Harvard Medical School has been providing tips on how to avoid jet lag.

Writing on Myrtle Beach Online the advisor states if you are going quite some distance on holiday and you do not want to spend the first few days of your holiday falling asleep when you want to be awake and lying awake when you want to drop off, there are a number of steps you can take.

First of all, travellers are advised to get plenty of sleep before leaving and to adjust bedtimes gradually a couple of days in advance so that the change will not be as noticeable.

Finally, the adviser states: "For the first day or two, spend as much time outdoors as possible to let daylight reset your internal clock."

In other news, researchers at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre have found that while we sleep the brain selectively preserves and enhances memories that have the most emotional resonance.
