There is no "magic number" when it comes to sleep


Different studies are continually telling us how much sleep we should be getting every night.

However, exercise physiologist Angie Ferguson claims everyone is different and as a result everyone has different sleep requirements.

Writing for news-press, she states: "Just because one person can perform well on a few hours, doesn't mean it's a one-size-fits-all panacea."

Ms Ferguson states that ideally everyone would allow themselves to wake up naturally, "rather than trying to figure out a magic number".

However, she acknowledges that for many people with work and family commitments this is not possible.

Instead, she suggests keeping a sleep diary recording how you slept and how you felt the next day.

If you notice that you are often feeling tired, she advises you to adjust your sleep pattern accordingly.
