Ta'i Chi 'can help with sleep'
A form of martial arts developed in China thousands of years ago could be a useful route to better sleep, according to the results of a new study.
Matilda Charles noted in the Lincoln Tribune that research conducted by the University of California Los Angeles found that the practice of Ta'i Chi Chih a "short westernised version" of Ta'i Chi led to sleep improvements.
Over 100 seniors were divided into two groups and for a 25-week period one group practiced the art and the other was given advice and information about restful sleep, stress and diet.
Two-thirds of the group practicing Tai Chi Chih experienced "significant improvements" in sleep, Ms Charles explained.
According to TaiChiChih.org, the 19 movements and one pose involved are easy to learn and involve no specific level of fitness.
Meanwhile, it was recently highlighted by the Fort Myers News-Press that everybody must generate their own rules and needs when deciding how much sleep is necessary for them.
People who struggle to sleep may also find changing their mattress beneficial.
