Electronic gadgets 'can stop kids sleeping'

Children with computers or televisions in their bedroom sleep less, according to new research.

A study conducted by the University of Haifa and Jezreel Valley College found on average those children with electronic distractions in their room fell asleep half an hour later than those without, Science Daily has reported.

The habits of 444 school pupils with an average age of 14 were recorded.

They were asked about their sleeping habits and their use of their computers and televisions.

It was also found those kids with a television in their bedroom watched an hour more a day than those without.

Those with computers in their bedrooms also spent an hour more a day tapping away than those who kept their PC elsewhere in the house.

Children who struggle to sleep without a television or computer in their bedroom may benefit from a new mattress.

Mattresses made by Tempur and Vi Spring are specifically designed to offer additional support.
