Choosing the right bed 'is vital for a good night's sleep'
The bed you sleep in is "absolutely critical" in ensuring a good night's sleep, according to the Sleep Council.
Spokesperson Jessica Alexander said: "If the bed is not comfortable, not big enough, too hard or too soft, you are going to be uncomfortable, fidgety, disturb your partner and have aches and pains."
She added that a good mattress and the right bedding were also key in making sure you wake up feeling refreshed.
A recent study by the manufacturers of anti-cramp medicine Crampex found a quarter of Brits have taken days off work due to exhaustion brought on by a lack of sleep.
Some 20 per cent of those questioned said they regularly got less than five hours sleep a night.
The most common causes of sleep deprivation were found to be stress, long working hours, noisy neighbours, muscle cramps and financial worries.
As well as making sure the bed is comfortable, the Sleep Council also suggests people create a restful sleeping environment by ensuring the bedroom is as dark and as quiet as possible.
