Aeroplane filled with beds to become world's first 'Jumbo Hostel'

Eighty-five beds and mattresses are being used to turn an old jet aeroplane into a hostel, the Daily Mail reports.

The Boeing 747, which has been bought by Swedish entrepreneur Oscar Dios, will be re-named the Jumbo Hostel and is grounded at the Arlanda Airport in Stockholm.

There will be 24 rooms with beds starting from £22 per night. The cockpit is also being turned into a luxury bedroom suite costing £171.

Mr Dios purchased the aeroplane in 2002 when its owner Transjet folded. Built in 1976 the passenger plane originally had 500 seats which have now been ripped out and replaced by beds.

On the official website for Jumbo Hostel Mr Dios said the hostel would suit "many categories of guests, such as families with children, young people and 'experience seekers' growing tired with the usual hotels".

He also said there had been a great deal of interest from European and American travel and tour operators.

Mr Dios already owns a hostel in Uppsala and this new venture will be the world's first Boeing 747 to be filled with beds.
