Changing a child's mattress 'could get them to bed'

Changing your child's mattress regularly could help avoid nightly battles to get them to go to bed, it has been suggested.

The Calgary Herald reported that according to the Better Sleep Council in Canada, children's bodies are growing and changing quickly meaning their mattress may become too small or uncomfortable quickly.

Therefore replacing it could be the key to ensuring they get a good night's sleep in bed.

Other advice given is to establish a regular sleep pattern with children, giving them time to settle into it and set an example by going to bed and getting up at the same time to encourage them to do the same.

Putting a sheet on the mattress, fluffing up pillows and making the bed properly also show the child that going to sleep is a treat in a relaxing, comfortable place.

Adults should also change their mattress at least every eight years to ensure it stays comfortable, according to Sleepy's.
