Asthma sufferers 'may have more trouble sleeping'
People suffering from asthma are more likely to have trouble resting as they suffer from nightmares, snoring problems and other forms of disturbed sleep, new research suggests.
Although medication has improved over the past decade, a study in Sweden revealed widespread problems which were more severe than those encountered by non-asthma sufferers, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Professor Christer Janson said: "They had double the prevalence of problems falling asleep and also more problems staying asleep, waking up too early and other sleep disruptions that left them with excessive daytime sleepiness."
He continued by saying that tiredness during the day can lead to increased risks of accidents at work or on the roads as asthma suffers struggle to stay awake.
There are many different types of treatment for those suffering from sleep disorders ranging from medication to psychotherapy or rehabilitation. These are often used in conjunction with one another, seattlepi.com says.
