New sleep clinic to open in New Mexico

People in New Mexico who have problems getting to sleep in their bed at night, or who from suffer from a disorder such as narcolepsy, may welcome the opening of a new centre.

A sleep clinic is being opened which claims to be one of the most comprehensive sleep medicine programmes in the state, Alamogordo Daily News reported.

Sleep behaviour and patterns will be monitored and treated with diagnostic and treatment technology in ten sleep evaluation bedrooms at the New Mexico Centre for Clinical and Behavioural Sleep Medicine.

Andrew Melendrez, sleep education and patient outreach professional at the centre said: "Specific problems that we can address include sleep apnoea, snoring, restless leg syndrome and insomnia."

Meanwhile, the Mercy Medical Centre in Dubuque has just renovated its sleep laboratory which now has four suites used to study the disorder sleep apnoea.
