People warned 'not to oversleep'


Many people are often concerned they are not getting enough sleep in bed every night. However, it seems that sleeping too much could be just as dangerous.

According to CBS News, oversleeping can lead to medical problems such as diabetes and heart disease. It is also associated with depression and people can experience headaches, as experts believe that sleeping too much can have an adverse effect on neurotransmitters in the brain

Scientists say that although the amount of sleep people need varies depending on their age and physical state - for example, someone who is feeling unwell may want to sleep more - there is a medical disorder called Hypersomnia which causes sufferers to oversleep.

As well as spending too long in bed at night they have an almost constant need for sleep which can cause anxiety, low energy and memory problems.

According to the BBC, around 150,000 people in the UK also suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome, suffering prolonged periods of fatigue along with symptoms such as sore throats, muscle pain and difficulties with short-term memory.
