Research announced to help quality of sleep for Parkinson's sufferers

New research is being conducted to help people with Parkinson's disease who suffer from sleep disorders, it has been reported.

According to Cambridge News online, researchers in the city will use £400,000 of lottery funding to look at the sleep problems which can seriously affect the quality of life of those with the disease, as well as their family and friends.

The Parkinson's Disease Society (PDS) will carry out the research, looking at whether the 24-hour body clock is altered by the disease.

Dr Roger Barker, of Cambridge University's Brain Repair Centre, said: "Sleep difficulties may occur for many years before a diagnosis of Parkinson's is finally made, and finding out what is happening in the brain will provide important clues as the disease progresses."

The PDS website describes Parkinson's as being a neurological condition which affects walking, talking and other movements due to a loss of nerve cells in the brain.
