How lack of sleep affects the body

Some people need much more time tucked up in bed than others, but everybody will notice how badly lack of sleep can affect the body.

One website called Good to Know, has given a guide of the main problems people who have trouble drifting off may experience.

Eyes can become bloodshot and vision blurred, as well as the dark circles known as 'bags under the eyes'. The skin on a person's face can also become spotty and flaky as it gets dehydrated.

Internally, the heart, stomach and brain are all affected by lack of sleep. A previous study has shown that the risk of heart disease is increased if people do not get enough rest and they are also more likely to become obese.

Memory and learning ability are both badly affected by lack of sleep, and perhaps more seriously, there have been links made to the risk of depression.

In related news, last month a doctor published information on Lubbock Online saying that sleep is as important for people's bodies as eating healthily and exercising.
