When was Tempur-pedic founded?
Tempur-pedic was founded in 1992 and became a publicly traded company in 2003.
What are the company origins?
Swedish company Fagerdala took over a small polyurethane manufacturer Dan-Foam and began adapting the Tempur memory foam for commercial production in the 80's.
Where is the company based?
The corporate headquarters are located in Lexington, Kentucky, USA. Tempur has two manufacturing facilities located in Denmark and Virginia; a third plant is opening in New Mexico.
Where did the Tempur material come from?
The material was developed by NASA in the 1970's to help astronauts cope with the G-forces associated with lift-off.
How long did it take to develop the material?
It took ten years and over 5,000 recorded trials to get the material to the stage where it could be commercially produced on a large scale.
Do Tempur just make mattresses?
No; Tempur make a variety of products including; mattresses, pillows and supports as well as a range of products for the healthcare industry under the Tempur-med brand.
Where are Tempur products available?
Tempur products are available in 54 counties either online or through a plethora of trusted retailers.
How fast has the company grown?
In 1996 Dan-Foam was voted the fastest growing company in Denmark; in subsequent years it remained in the top 10 fastest growing companies.
Does the company have relationships with any sporting bodies?
In 2005 Tempur was appointed as the official supplier to the England Rugby team; getting a good nights rest is important for professional athletes as they are prone to a range of injuries, aches and pains.
What does the NASA seal mean?
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or NASA for short, has acknowledged Tempur for their commercial application of space technology and granted them an "Award of Recognition". Tempur has also been granted a certificate of achievement by the U.S. Space foundation.
